Summary

This case study reports on work to promote literacy among six language groups in Northern Ghana. It provides background information, gives details of how the programs worked in each language group, and attempts to assess each program. It promotes the message that the implementation of literacy programs will ultimately be successful only when the process involves community commitment and community involvement. This record of experience and accomplishment is a resource for others who are trying to promote literacy in similar situations.
