Summary

Otuho is spoken by approximately 100,000 people in the Eastern Equatorial Region of southern Sudan.

Author studied the central dialect of Otuho in 1982, working with SIL and the Institute of Regional Languages (IRL). Undertook research in preparation for the planned revisions of the reading primers during 1983 and 1984. Since two or three orthographies had been used, there was a need to stabilize the orthography to make progress in literacy among the Lotuho people.

Draws together phonological and historical factors influencing decisions as to the orthography most likely to be acceptable to all concerned.
