Summary

Describes a mother tongue literacy program among the Subanon people of the Philippines. Utilized high school upperclassmen to teach preliterate adults in their own communities. Program fit into the high school curriculum as community service. Provided training and supervision of upperclassmen by adult classroom teachers who were also mother tongue speakers. Was considered a great success the first year under the supervision of the program designer, but not as successful after her departure.
