Siever 1970

Reference

Siever, John. 1970. "Illustration research." READ: Promoting Literacy and Literature. Interest level: general.

Summary

Illustration research presents the visual testing procedures done in Papua New Guinea. Showed 60 illustrations to preliterates and literates and evaluated six different styles. Discusses which art styles are the most effective visually for a preliterate viewer.

Evaluation

Is very helpful in discovering what is appropriate art for preliterate comprehension. Only criticism is that the author did not show examples of the six styles of illustration that were tested. Examples would have been very helpful.
