What is an expert system?

 

Definition
 

An expert system is a computer program that captures the logic of an expert in regard to a well-defined problem or task. Through a series of questions to the user, it evaluates his or her response and makes recommendations as to how the problem can be solved or the task carried out.

Example
 

A commercial program called K-Vision provides the programming logic and user interface for the expert systems included in LinguaLinks.
